Solar Pool Heating rubber collector panel with 66 pipe header.

Panel Size: 3m x 0.9m

a) System sizing for an Outdoor pool in full sun, with a pool cover in use:

28 Degrees Celsius during the warmer 9 months of the year is the target water temperature that most swimmers enjoy. A pool cover such as the floating geobubble covers prevents not only evaporation, it also prevents heat loss and its use is highly recommended when the pool is not used.

Use 1 panel for every 8 000 Liter of water when pump circulation time is set to a minimum of 8 hours per day. Panels need to be positioned on roof or stand that is in full sun during the pump circulation time.

If the roof or position of the panels, or due to load shedding the pump would be running less than 8 hours per day, more panels should be added to compensate for the heat generation time. More panels equals more heat.

b) System sizing for an Outdoor pool in full sun, without a pool cover:

Use 1 panel for every 5 000 Liter of water when pump circulation time is set to a minimum of 8 hours per day during which time the pool heating panels must be in full sun. Use more panels to compensate for shorter pump circulation times. More panels equals more heat.

c) System sizing for an Indoor pools with a pool cover in use:

Pool covers for indoor swimming pools are essential to prevent high moisture levels and growth of mold, but it also serve as protector if heat.

Due to the fact that indoor pools are very cold, at least 1 panel for every 5 000 Liter should be used. The pump's circulation time should be set to a minimum of 8 hours per day during which time the pool heating panels must be in full sun.

Use more panels to compensate for shorter pump circulation times. More panels equals more heat.

Installation basics:

  • Panel collectors should be glued onto backing sheets with Contact Glue or Cold Wood Glue to prevent movement
  • Use of a beam or Square Tubing 25 x 25 x 1.6mm (NOT SUPPLIED) to tie the top panel header is essential to prevent sagging.
  • ON A TILED ROOF: Tie the square tubing to the timer brandering or roof beams by lifting tiles and using ski-rope provided.
  • ON METAL ROOFS: Use roof screws or brackets (NOT SUPPLIED) to strap square tubing to the roof.
  • The panels and pipes should be installed in such a way that the panels drain and water inside the panels return to the pool through the pool inlets (aimflos) when the pump is switched off.  Note: This ensures that water inside panels does not freeze and the expanded water cause damage to panels.
