Use Aquachek Professional or our 5-in-1 test strips to quickly check the level of TA in your pool.
If your pool’s pH keeps bouncing up and down, you don’t have a chlorine problem — you have an alkalinity problem.
Africhem Boost & Buffer is a high-quality Total Alkalinity (TA) increaser formulated to stabilise pool water and reduce pH fluctuation. By correcting low alkalinity levels, it creates the buffering effect your pool needs to maintain balanced, healthy water.
Stable alkalinity means predictable chemistry. Predictable chemistry means clearer water and better sanitiser performance.
Why Total Alkalinity Is Critical to test
Total Alkalinity acts as a buffering agent, helping to prevent rapid pH swings in pool water.
When TA is too low:
- pH fluctuates constantly
- Water becomes corrosive
- Marble plaster can etch
- Metal fittings may corrode
- Chlorine becomes less effective
Ideal Pool Water Levels:
- Total Alkalinity (TA): 80–120 ppm
- pH: 7.2 – 7.8
When TA and pH are balanced, chlorine works at its best to sanitise the water effectively.
Recommended Dosage Guidelines
For a 50 000 litre pool, a dose of 2kg to 6kg of Africhem Boost & Buffer is normally sufficient — depending on the actual TA and pH levels.
As a general rule:
- Use approximately 2kg to increase TA by 10ppm per 50 000 litres of water.
Always test first before adjusting.
How to Dose Correctly
- Test the Total Alkalinity level using reliable test strips such as AquaChek Professional or 5-in-1 test strips.
- Determine the required amount according to packaging instructions.
- Mix Africhem Boost & Buffer in a bucket of water.
- Add the solution to the deep end of the pool with the pump running.
- Allow 48 hours of continuous circulation before retesting TA.
- If further correction is needed, add 2kg at a time until TA is within range.
- pH reacts faster — retest pH after 8 hours of continuous circulation.
Accurate testing and gradual correction prevent over-adjustment.
Key Benefits
- Raises and stabilises Total Alkalinity
- Reduces pH fluctuation
- Improves chlorine efficiency
- Protects marble plaster surfaces
- Prevents corrosion
- Easy-to-use granular formula
Built for South African Pool Conditions
Rainfall, municipal water changes, and high evaporation rates can destabilise pool chemistry. Africhem Boost & Buffer helps maintain consistent balance in demanding environments.
Handy other uses
Africhem Boost & Buffer is Sodium Bicarbonate, commonly known as baking soda.
Outside the pool world, baking soda is widely used for:
- Whitening and brightening laundry
- Neutralising odours
- Removing stains
For laundry use:
- Add ½ cup of baking soda with detergent
- Add another ½ cup during the rinse cycle
In your pool, however, it serves a much more critical role — stabilising water chemistry.
Why It Stands Out
Total Alkalinity is the foundation of balanced pool water. Without it, every chemical adjustment becomes unpredictable.
Boost it. Buffer it. Balance it properly.
Maintain stable water. Protect your pool. Swim with confidence.
